Poetic Intelligence

Saturday, March 30, 2019, 8:00 PM

A Saturday Afternoonwith Christa ForsterSaturday March 301-5 pm$70 Perhaps you missed the poetic version of Mars rover Opportunity’s last transmission: “My Battery Is / Low and / It Is / Getting / Dark.” Celebrated on Twitter by poets and artists, #Oppy's last words reveal the poetic intelligence (which, fundamentally, is an artificial intelligence) at work. In this workshop—just in time to produce some poems to share and/or submit during National Poetry Month (April)—students acquire more understanding of the intelligence of poetic techniques; they practice using this intelligence to shape ordinary speech into art. Within the three hours, students complete two generative assignments, designed to result in drafts of brand new poems! Christa Forster is an award-winning writer, performer and educator; she lives in Houston, TX with her husband and their two teenagers; she teaches English full time at The Kinkaid School. She has won multiple Individual Artist Grants in Literature, attended the Tin House and Naropa Summer Writing workshops, and written for and performed in live bands and theater productions, including several original one-woman shows. Her literary work has been published in print anthologies and in online literary journals. Additionally, her feature work appears in Bluestem, The Broken Plate, Cite Magazine, ellipsis... literature & art, The Houston Chronicle, The New York Times, The Round, Sanskrit, and Sculpture Magazine.  www.antilogicalpedagogical.wordpress.com
