The Runner Stumbles: A True Crime Thriller

A beautiful nun, an infatuated priest, a horrifying murder: The plot elements of The Runner Stumbles could hardly be more incendiary. Based on a true story, this white-hot thriller doesn't take the stage so much as scorch it. When a young nun dies in a remote church in northern Michigan, the parish priest is charged with her brutal death. But as the play moves between jailhouse interrogations, testimony and flashbacks, the story that emerges is far more torrid, problematic and surprising than even the sensational summary suggests. Adapted for the screen by director Stanley Kramer (Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?, Inherit the Wind), The Runner Stumbles returns to the stage in this lively -- and deadly! -- production at Houston's Playhouse 1960.
