About Jasmine Chida:Jasmine Chida, a native of Texas and owner and chef of Sweet Cup Gelato & Sorbet Originale, has transformed tradition with her craft of making some of Houston’s greatest and highly praised flavors when it comes to gelato and sorbet. Jasmine, a semifinalist in the Gelato World Tour a few years back, studied and attended advanced training in Bologna, Italy learning the science behind dairy and gelato. After coming back from Italy, she decided to leave her job to follow her passion for making gelato and to create an experience for people in Houston and Texas. She mastered gelato mostly on her own and developed her culinary skills through experimentation at home with a small machine where she created unique flavors for friends, dinner parties, and family. Patrons, staff members, Italian tradition, and Houston’s diverse food scene have an input on what kinds of flavors can come to fruition and live behind the glass case at Sweet Cup. Sweet Cup’s signature flavors are now showing up on grocery store shelves, in retail stores and restaurants, and popping up around pockets of Houston neighborhoods. Beforehand, gelato was a very limited concept and relatively unknown to people in Texas. Jasmine’s passion and craft has helped bridge that gap as an approachable experience for gelato.
