SIGN UP HERE TO VOLUNTEER FOR THE WE ARE GIRLS HOUSTON CONFERENCE! The We Are Girls Conference, produced by Girls Empowerment Network, is a statewide, multi-city event designed especially for girls in grades 3-8 and the adults who care about them. Founded in 2008 the 2017/2018 theme is “Become Unstoppable.” Featuring skill-building workshops and dynamic presentations, the We Are Girls Conference connects girls to relatable role models and encourages healthy relationships, educational discovery, and creative self-expression. This year’s We Are Girls Houston Conference is being held on Saturday, April 28, 2018 from 9 AM – 3:00PM, at Hogg Middle School. If you’re interested in volunteering with the We Are Girls Conference please read through the position descriptions below and choose whichever area you are interested in assisting with. You are able to choose more than one shift as long as the times don't overlap or you are committing to both shifts for a position. (Ex: If you choose to be a Spirit Squad member for both shifts they will overlap by 15 min.) You can only register for yourself. Individuals are not permitted to register a large number of people. Please note that there is a mandatory volunteer training taking place at Hogg Middle School on Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 1:00pm-2:30pm. This volunteer training will be held on-site at HMS in the cafeteria. If you have questions about the training please contact email@example.com. One week prior to the volunteer training, you will recieve an email with location, parking, and logistics information for the volunteer training. The We Are Girls Houston Conference is in need of volunteers in the following capacities: -Registration-- from 7:30am to 10:30am. These volunteers check-in all of the attendees, give them the necessary materials, and direct attendees as needed. -Information desk-- from 7:30am to 11:45am AND/OR 11:30am to 3:30pm. These volunteers will be stationed in a central location to answer questions, provide support to conference attendees, and will be responsible for going to each classroom after every breakout session and collecting evaluations. -Speaker check-in-- from 9:00am to 11:45am AND/OR 11:30 to 3:15pm. These volunteers will be stationed at a table where the workshop providers can check-in, ask questions, and fill out a survey about their experience. -Lunch-- from 10:30am to 2pm. These volunteers serve our boxed lunches to the attendees. They will ensure that all speakers receive lunch and that the lunch process runs smoothly. -Hospitality-- from 7:30am to 11:45am AND/OR 11:30 to 3:00pm. These volunteers will help keep our hospitality room neat and clean. They will also ensure that all speakers receive lunch. -Audio-visual support-- from 9:15am to 2:15pm. We need support this year from individuals familiar with projectors/laptops who feel comfortable troubleshooting any issues that the speakers encounter while hooking up their technology before their sessions. -Workshop Assistant-- from 9:45am to 3:05pm. Workshop assistants assist the speakers with their workshops. They also introduce the speaker, provide support to girls attending the breakout session, and administer the conference evaluations. THIS POSITION IS ONLY AVAILABLE FOR WOMEN. -SPIRIT SQUAD/Hallway monitoring/Directional Assistance-- from 7:30am to 11:45am AND/OR 11:30 to 3:15pm. These volunteers are in charge of bringing joy, energy, and enthusiasm to the conference! They will have a large role at the conference's kick-off rally, and these volunteers shouldn't be shy about getting on stage and getting people pumped! Throughout the day you'll engage with girls, lead chants, answer any questions that the attendees have, and help folks find their way to workshop sessions. -Performing Arts Center Monitoring--from 7:45am to 11:15am AND/OR 11:00 to 3:15pm.
